Major Emergency Centres

Summary

In the event of a major emergency occurring within the boundaries of Babergh, we will set up a Major Emergency Centre within our main office building

In the event of a major emergency occurring within the boundaries of Babergh, we will set up a Major Emergency Centre within our main office building at Corks Lane, Hadleigh.

The Centre will be equipped with appropriate telephone and communication equipment to enable the facility to be used for the purpose of co-ordinating a long-term response to a major incident..

In certain circumstances, e.g. town centre evacuation or public utility service failure, it may be necessary to evacuate the main office building and transfer the centre to other Council locations. During such periods, every attempt will be made to maintain the contact arrangements published on this website and in other directories.

The Major Emergency Centre is not staffed on a regular basis. During activation appropriate officers will be asked to attend in order to meet the changing needs and circumstances of any given incident, i.e. initial monitoring of the situation through to the provision of support to the emergency services and the community generally.
