Climate Change

Summary

It is almost universally accepted now that climate change is a reality. It is likely to have a greater impact on the East of England than in other regions in the UK.

Climate change will cause a loss of land and property, affect water supplies and have major implications for communities, agriculture, wildlife and vulnerable historic sights. For this reason it has been identified as one of the main themes of Suffolk's Greenest County initiative, please view more information regarding the Greenest County website:

The Suffolk Climate Change Partnership Business Advisor Service is available free to Suffolk "Small to Medium Enterprises" (SMEs) and qualifying 'not for profit organisations'.
A qualified advisor will visit your premises and work with you to:

  • assess your energy and resource use and calculate your carbon footprint
  • provide practical measures to reduce your costs, carbon emissions and environmental impact
  • improve staff awareness and understanding of your green agenda

To find out if your business or organisation is eligible or to request a business advisor visit, call 01394 444257.

CRed is the Community Carbon Reduction Project based in the East of England. It originated from the University of East Anglia where some of the most important climate change research has been done. Babergh DC is a partner of the CRed Partnership, together with all the other Councils of Suffolk, the Environment Agency, the Energy Saving Trust, The Suffolk Chambers of Commerce and many others. The project’s aim is to engage with Suffolk communities (businesses and householders) to bring about a 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2025 and to raise awareness that we need to adapt to a different climate where by 2080 rainfall is expected to be 50% less in summer and 30% more in winter.

By making changes to the way we live day to day Suffolk communities will be doing 'their bit' to achieving the 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2025.
