Burglar alarms

Summary

Burglar alarms should automatically cut-off 20 minutes after activating to comply with the Code of Practice on Noise from Audible Intruder Alarms and minimise the possibility of causing a noise nuisance.

If your immediate neighbours are not one of the nominated keyholders indicated in the Notification to the Environmental Protection team, then you should inform them how to contact the keyholders if the alarm develops a fault.

When installing a new alarm or changing an existing one, then either you or the installer should complete the Notification form referred to above, with the details of where the alarm is, the address of the Alarm Maintenance Contractor and the keyholders.

Please contact the Environmental Protection team, by one of the means below, to request a Notification form or complete the downloadable Intruder Alarm Registration Form (PDF, 16kb)

Suffolk Constabulary's SAFEKey web page contains details of a scheme to allow the police quick access to the keys of your home or business via a nominated person in an emergency.
