Thanks to over 7,000 Babergh residents, we have sent almost 3,000 tonnes of garden waste to be compostedin the past 12 months . This is all waste that could otherwise have ended up in landfill sites.
All current subscriptions to the scheme will expire on 31st May 2008.
Once again, for all existing subscribers, the annual charge will remain at £30 per brown bin (£15 per bin for those in receipt of Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance (income based) or Pension Guaranteed Credit). This charge covers fortnightly collections throughout the year (there will be just one break in service over the Christmas period).
To renew your current subscription online please go to our make a payment web page.
You will need your credit or debit card details and your Brown Bin Reference (this is quoted in the renewal letter, 5 digits commencing with an 8).
How to get a brown bin (Garden waste collection)
Over 5,500 residents have joined the Garden Waste Collection Scheme so far and numbers are increasing daily. But don’t worry – if you wish to join the scheme there are still places available.
The cost of the scheme, for the hire of the bin and fortnightly collections from June 2007 to the end of May 2008 is £40 for new subscribers. The price reduces as the year progresses. A reduction in cost is available to those in receipt of certain benefits.
Having a brown bin saves endless trips to the local tip, ensures that your garden waste gets composted and helps towards Babergh’s recycling and composting rate.
The Brown Bins will be collected from the normal collection point and must be put out by 7am, however, the day for collection may be different from your normal refuse collection day.

Babergh D.C. does not provide evey resident with a brown bin because not everybody wants one and so not everyone wants to pay the cost of providing this service. A lot of Babergh residents prefer to home compost instead, which is cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
