Garden Waste

Garden Waste

On average, every household in Babergh currently throws away nearly 1 tonne of rubbish each year. That's close to 35,000 tonnes in all, enough to create a queue of dustcarts 22 miles long. Over one third of the rubbish we throw away could be recycled by composting.

At the moment, about 36% of the rubbish collected by the council is recycled or composted. We need to increase this to 60% by 2010 in order to meet strict Government requirements and to further reduce the environmental impact of the rubbish we create.

Please do not place any garden waste in your black bin.

Here are four ways to compost your garden waste......

Disposal - The Options:

  1. Home Composting
  2. Garden Waste Collection
  3. Bulk Bag Scheme
  4. Household Waste & Recycling Centres

1. HOME COMPOSTING

Composting you garden and kitchen waste at home is best for the environment and saves time and fuel in getting to and from the tip as well as giving you free compost for the garden. The Council is offering cut price home compost bins for as little as £17 delivered. Go to our compost bin web page for details of the compost bin promotion via the link below:
