Residents who want to help keep the Babergh district greener, cleaner and safer can do so by signing up to the Baberghood Watch scheme.
Baberghood Watch Wardens act as the eyes and ears of the district and report issues such as abandoned vehicles and fly-tipping. As soon as the council receives a report from a Baberghood Watch Warden, it responds to the problem as soon as possible.
How the scheme works
It’s not possible for the council to see what’s going on in every part of the district, all of the time - so we need people who are willing to report problems in their streets, parks and communities. We are looking for at least one Warden from every Parish. This individual must be from, or have the endorsement of the Parish Council.
We don’t expect our Wardens to go on weekly patrols or give up any personal time to identify problems. All we ask is that you report any issues you come across when you are out and about. You just need to describe the problem, the location and submit it on an e-mail based proforma. Once received, Babergh will then follow this up and arrange for the appropriate course of action.
The scheme involves a two way exchange of information, so as well as you telling Babergh about issues, Babergh can update Wardens on street cleansing schedules, refuse collection round changes etc.
The types of problems you can report:
- Dumped litter and rubbish
- Fly-tipping and graffiti
- Un-emptied litter and dog waste bins
- Parks and open space problems
- Full recycling banks
- Abandoned vehicles
- Dog fouling
How does the Baberghood Watch scheme make a difference?
Abandoned vehicles and dumped rubbish can spoil the look of our beautiful district. By reporting these problems Babergh can act quickly to clean them up, thus the Baberghood Watch scheme makes Babergh a cleaner, greener and safer place to live and work. A cleaner district free from graffiti and fly-tipping can also make residents feel safer.
Joining the Baberghood Watch scheme
Nominations for Wardens must be sent to Babergh by the end of January 2008 using the attached nomination form. Babergh then intends to hold a training event for all nominees in February/March 2008 prior to the scheme commencing in April 2008.
