Summary

Fly-posting is the illegal display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture without the consent of the owner.

Fly-posting is the illegal display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture without the consent of the owner, contrary to the provisions of the Planning Regulations. This includes displays on street furniture, trees and roundabouts.

The Highways Act 1980, section 132 allows for the prosecution of anyone caught fixing posters. The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 allows for the prosecution of the person fixing the poster, the persons benefiting from the advertisement and owner of the land on which it is displayed. The maximum fine on conviction is £1000.
