Private Water Supplies - Charging Arrangements
Summary

The Council has a rolling programme to monitor private water supplies. Laws controlling the way that local authorities carry out their duty concerning private water supplies are included in the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009. Among other things these rules set out how often a local authority must take a sample of water from a private supply, what tests it must carry out and how much it can charge for taking the sample and testing the water

- Private water supplies serving single dwellings are exempt from the requirements of the Regulations, however sampling and risk assessments will be carried out on request.
- Large supplies (10m3 per day or more) and supplies to commercial or public premises are subject to check monitoring and audit monitoring at a frequency dependent on the volume of water used. Risk assessments are carrried out every five years.
- Supplies which serve more than dwelling where the use is purely domestic and the volume used is <10m3 a day are subject to monitoring under Regulation 10 and risk assessments every five years.
