Local authorities are required to consider the various accommodation needs of the local population and to carry out periodic reviews in order to provide relevant and appropriate provision to meet these needs.

Under section 8 of the Housing Act 1985 local authorities are required to consider the various accommodation needs of the local population and to carry out periodic reviews in order to provide relevant and appropriate provision to meet these needs.
In order to ensure that we are working with the most up to date and informative data our first Strategic Housing Market Assessment and a new Housing Need Survey have been completed during 2008.
The council is required to carry out different forms of research as well as utilising data from the housing register to ensure it has robust and accurate information. The different studies that have or are being undertaken are listed below.
