Grass Cutting Scheme

Grass cutting and hedge trimming scheme

Apply for help with your grass or hedge by completing the online Grass Cutting Scheme form.

Babergh operates a gardening scheme that helps tenants keep their grass and hedges tidy. You need to satisfy certain criteria in order to qualify for the scheme. This leaflet will tell you who can be helped and what gardening work will be carried out under the scheme. This is a free service, which means we cannot assist everyone who applies as the budget is limited.

Who can we help?

In order to qualify for help with the maintenance of your grass and hedges you must:

  • be a tenant of Babergh District Council
  • be over pensionable age (60 for women, 65 for men), or registered disabled and incapable of looking after your garden
  • be in receipt of Housing Benefit
  • not have any friends or family able to help with your garden

What help will I get?

The scheme provides basic garden maintenance.

  • your garden will be cut 4 times a year, in approximately April, May, July and September
  • if you have a hedge this will be cut twice in July or August and again in October or November

The scheme does not include;

  • weeding
  • the planting and maintenance of flowerbeds
  • pruning of shrubs
  • picking up grass cuttings

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply for the scheme, please complete the online Grass Cutting Scheme form.  You will then be visited to assess what garden work is needed in your circumstances.
