Empty Properties

Summary

Information about empty council houses

Empty council homes are usually waiting for repair, redecoration or re-letting.  We want to make sure they stay empty so that someone on the waiting list has the chance to find a home as soon as possible.

The laws on squatting are complex and we cannot simply evict a person who is squatting but if you see anyone suspicious or who appears to be squatting in the property that you know or think should be vacant, we would be grateful if you would let us know as soon as possible.

We cannot know what is happening in all the properties that we own and we do appreciate the information we receive.  We will treat all information in the strictest confidence and the Council will take all the necessary action to get the property back.

If you need information in large print, audio cassette, braille, translation (written or verbal) or signed interpretation, let us know when you contact us. About our translation services.
