Disabled facilities grants

To provide for the special needs of disabled people - installing stairlifts, low access showers and other alterations to help those with disabilities easier access and mobility around their homes.

Eligibility for these grants is subject to a medical assessment by an Occupational Therapist from Social Care Services.

These grants are subject to a £30,000 maximum and a "means test" to determine the applicant’s ability to contribute towards the cost of the work.

Major Works Renovation Loans

Work to remedy substantial disrepair.

The loan is subject to a £20,000, maximum and a "means test" to determine the applicant's ability to contribute towards the cost of the works.

If you need assistance with your grant or loan application Hanover At Home, the Home Improvement Agency , are able to help. The cost of this service can be included in the grant/loan.The loan is repayable upon transfer of the property, or after 5 years review.

Home Repairs Assistance Loans

Work to remedy minor disrepair.

The loan is subject to a £5,000 maximum and a "means test" to determine the applicant's ability to contribute towards the cost of the works.

Energy Efficiency Home Repairs Assistance

To carry out Energy Efficiency measures such as the installation of approved renewable heat sources such as solar water heating or non standard insulation measures when conventional insulation measures cannot be undertaken, a grant of 50% of eligible expense paid, up to a maximum of £500 per dwelling.

Landlord Grants

Work to provide new units of accommodation, bring back to use long term empty properties and upgrade of houses in Multiple Occupation.

50% of eligible expense paid up to a maximum of £10,000 (Subject to available finance).

Full repayment will be required if the property is sold within 5 years, or rent restrictions not adhered to. For the next 5 years a sliding scale applies with repayment reduced by 20% for each full year conditions are adhered to.

Landlord grants are conditional upon the owner entering into an agreement with the Council for the property to be let in accordance with the Council's approved Private Sector Leasing Scheme.

Work to remedy substantial disrepair and improve energy efficiency.

50% of eligible expense paid up to a maximum of £5,000.

Full repayment will be required if the property is sold within 5 years, or rent restrictions not adhered to. For the next 5 years a sliding scale applies with repayment reduced by 20% for each full year conditions are adhered to. 

Landlord grants are conditional upon the owner entering into an agreement with the Council for the property to be let in accordance with the Council's approved Private Sector Leasing Scheme.
