Homes in Disrepair

Summary

We are proud of our record in improving the homes of owner-occupiers and private tenants by providing grant assistance for repairs and improvements, and works to improve the energy efficiency of homes.

Babergh District Council is proud of its record in improving the homes of owner-occupiers and private tenants by providing grant assistance for repairs and improvements, and works to improve the energy efficiency of homes.

The method of allocating finance to secure improvements to private sector housing has now changed from awarding grants to a situation of mainly providing interest free loans to owners.

The Council approved a policy for private sector housing renewal (downloadable Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy (PDF, 215Kb)) on the 19th August 2003. Chapter 8 of the document provides details of the type of works which qualify for assistance in the form of grant aid or loan assistance for owner/occupiers, landlords and private tenants. The terms and conditions of assistance are contained in Chapter 10. A one page summary of eligibility criteria (downloadable summary of grant/loan eligibility criteria (PDF, 7Kb)) is contained in what constituted Appendix 1 of the report.
