The Arts and Community development service is aimed at encouraging and nurturing arts activity in the Babergh area and recognises the value that cultural activity can have on communities, individuals and businesses.

The Arts and Community development service is aimed at encouraging and nurturing arts activity in the Babergh area and recognises the value that cultural activity can have on communities, individuals and businesses.

 

  • The service provides advice, information and support to local artists, arts organisations and groups.
     
  • Provides a programme of arts activities with partners that local residents and visitors can benefit from.

 

Arts and Community development aims to help people in the community to deliver arts activity by giving:-

 

  • Advice on setting up an arts project.
     
  • Advice on seeking funding for the project and event.
     
  • Making links with other organisations or individuals who would be able to help.
     
  • Support in promoting arts projects and events.

The arts and community development service works in partnership with arts providers, other Local Authorities and departments in Babergh to maximise the impact of the arts in the district and in order to offer a varied menu of activities and experiences for the community.

Amplifier music programme for young people.

Weekly term time sessions currently run at The  Eden's Project, Sudbury.  Weekly sessions also run from East Bergholt High School and Hadleigh High School for students of those respective schools.

Arts Database      

Database of local artists, performers arts clubs and groups within the Babergh area. 

Babergh Community Grants

Grants scheme for Babergh community groups and voluntary organisations

Class Creates Concert

Gareth Malone star of BBC series The Choir: Boys Don't Sing is working with young people from six local schools to create an original piece of music to be performed alongside the City of London Sinfonia and some classic favourites.  Saturday 5 July 6.30pm.

Suffolk Rural Digital Cinema.  

Local cinemas near you, include, The Quay Theatre, Sudbury, Hadleigh Ansell Community Centre,  Hartest, Lavenham, Nayland, Polstead and  Tattingstone village halls. To find out more about what's on click the above link.   Babergh District Council are working with the venues in the district to hold an International Film Festival The Wider Picture Project.

Theatre Critic Project. 

Young people in the the district have the opportunity to write theatre reviews for performances at The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich along with writers workshop opportunities.

Uncover Belle Vue Park, Activity Trail and Leaflet (PDF, 52kb)

An interactive leaflet for children and families is available from Sudbury Tourist Information Centre, and Sudbury area Libraries.  The leaflet is a fun interactive activity trail based on the tree carving and the history and nature of Belle Vue Park.  Pick up your FREE copy from one of the above venues.

Wider Picture Project

A further film festival with an International flavour is planned for Babergh in Autumn 2009.

Youth Event.  

A Youth event organised by young people in Babergh on issues and subjects that are important to them.
