A new partnership aimed at the getting the people of Babergh more active is just getting started with an official launch on November 16th.
Active South Suffolk, the name of the new initiative, aims to encourage everybody from the very young to the very old to get out - and get active.
The partnership will also work with existing sports clubs and other active leisure providers, including, for example, dance organisations, to improve the opportunities that people have to get and stay active. The Active South Suffolk partnership includes Babergh District Council, Sport England, local schools and many voluntary groups and clubs.
The first priority for Active South Suffolk is to focus on the action needed to achieve its principle aim of encouraging everyone, young and old, to get active and keep active, whether that be through competitive sport or rambling.
Sue Longhurst, Babergh’s Community Development Officer (Sport), said: “Babergh is confident that Active South Suffolk will enable all partners and clubs within the district to work together in the future.
“We hope it will engage the whole community to take part in sport and other active arts and leisure pursuits.”
Earlier this year, Babergh launched a competition for members of the public to name the new partnership, design a logo and strapline – and Active South Suffolk was born.
The partnership launch is taking place on Friday, November 16th, at Hadleigh Leisure Centre, from 5pm until 7.30pm.
Clubs and sporting bodies across Babergh have been invited to the launch, which includes demonstrations from a variety of different clubs, an offical launch introduction to Active South Suffolk from chairman Ian Brown and presentations to the competition winners.
After the official launch, we will be posting a gallery of pictures from the event, so keep checking back.
The partnership's next meeting is November 29th when an Action Plan for the partnership will be decided on.
