APPROVAL FOR PIN MILL HOUSEBOAT HOPEFULLY “THE FIRST OF MANY”

Summary

The Reliance – one of the houseboats permanently moored at Pin Mill on the Shotley Peninsula – successfully applied for planning permission last week, with Babergh councillors hoping that it will be the first of many.

As well as being a magnet for walkers and painters, Pin Mill is home to about two dozen residents who occupy the houseboats along the foreshore.  Babergh has been working with the houseboat owners, Chelmondiston Parish Council and other groups to improve the area – including a clear-up of wrecked boats and litter.

“We are delighted that the owner of the Reliance has ‘formalised’ his use of the foreshore and his access jetty.  In many ways, having planning permission gives a houseboat owner a greater degree of security” explained Cllr. Bryn Hurren, Chairman of the Pin Mill Task Group.

“We hope that other owners will now follow suit”.

Cllr Penny Clarke, one of the local ward members added that “its great that yet another step has been achieved towards making Pin Mill an even better place for all residents in which to live”
