“We are exceptionally pleased with today’s meeting and the strong support Babergh residents have shown to recycling” enthused Councillor David Wood, after today’s (9th September) public meeting at Sudbury Town Hall.
Babergh District Council held this, the first of three public meetings to hear the views of householders on the TwinBin Scheme – and the majority of those present were positively in favour of the recycling initiative which has trebled Babergh’s recycling rate since its inception.
The meeting attracted 148 members of the public. Councillors David Wood, Chairman of Babergh’s TwinBin Scrutiny Group., Wendy Sadler and Clive Arthey were present at the event and responded to questions and concerns from the attendees.
Everyone who attended the session was positive about recycling and were pleased that their efforts had contributed to improvements in Babergh’s recycling levels. The majority of householders had clearly been able to adapt to the system of an alternate week collection. However, a fair number of concerns were also raised about smells and the need for a weekly collection of the black wheelie bins.
“We were delighted that such a high number of people attended the Sudbury event and gave me and my fellow Councillors the opportunity to hear the level of support for the TwinBin Scheme” said Mr Wood. He continued “we listened to the concerns expressed by some and will be incorporating these in a report that my Group will be presenting to the Overview & Scrutiny (Community Services) Committee on 4th October”.
Two further events are to be held on Tuesday 14th September at the Stephenson Centre in Great Cornard, and on Thursday 16th September at Capel St Mary Library. Both events will run from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
