As Babergh District Council awaits the outcome of its Local Plan Inquiry, work is already underway on the first Local Development Framework (LDF). LDFs, recently introduced by Central Government, replace Local Plans and set out which land is earmarked for future developments throughout the district, for both residential and commercial use.
As part of the process in drafting its LDF, Babergh is carrying out initial consultation with a number of agencies, which includes Town and Parish Councils, as well as those Borough, District and County Councils neighbouring Babergh. The questionnaire invites views and comments on how communities are to be involved in the future planning of the district, with the closing date for responses being Friday 5th August.
Responses received from this round of consultation will go towards Babergh’s Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), a document which will form part of the Local Development Framework. The SCI is only concerned with community involvement (not planning itself) and gives local people and organisations the opportunity to have their say on the future development of the district.
Babergh’s Local Plan Manager, Rich Cooke: “Our aim is to ensure that everyone has a full opportunity to be involved in local planning matters from an early stage. This initial consultation will give us an idea of the views of communities throughout the district. The next stage will be to consult with members of the public, which will take place once we have a draft SCI document”.
