BABERGH REVIEWS COMMUNITY GRANT SCHEME TO ENSURE MONEY WELL SPENT

Summary

Babergh District Council’s Community Grant Scheme is to undergo a major review in an effort to ensure better value for money in the future.

Babergh District Council’s Community Grant Scheme is to undergo a major review in an effort to ensure better value for money in the future.

The Scheme, which has been in operation for over 20 years, assists with the funding of community projects such as village hall extensions, disabled facilities and new community centres.  Over the last twelve months grants totaling £133,000 have been given to various projects within the Babergh District.

In order to ensure the grant scheme is beneficial in delivering the Council’s objectives, and also that it is still required by the community, a review of the Scheme will start in April.   Whilst the review is taking place applications cannot be considered for grants under the Scheme.

Babergh District Council’s Leisure Services Manager, Penny Arnold commented, “These grants have proven to be extremely beneficial to our communities.  However, councillors have agreed that we now need to undertake this review in order to achieve best value and secure excellent facilities in the future.”

Once the review has been completed and considered by the Council full details of the proposals will be published.
