NAYLAND CONSERVATION APPRAISAL – LOOKING TO THE FUTURE TO PROTECT THE PAST

Summary

The adoption by Babergh District Council of the Nayland Conservation Area Appraisal  has been welcomed by the local ward Councillor.

The adoption by Babergh District Council of the Nayland Conservation Area Appraisal  has been welcomed by the local ward Councillor.

Babergh has researched and surveyed the Conservation Area  which covers the main part of the village.  The Appraisal follows English Heritage guidance, identifying the history and character of Nayland as well as the best ways of protecting and enhancing the Conservation Area.  The Appraisal is now being used by Babergh to guide development and help property owners who may be seeking planning permission in the area.

Cllr. Chris Hunt, whose ward includes both Nayland-with-Wissington and Stoke-by-Nayland, has welcomed the document and the use to which it is being put. “This is a useful tool for ensuring that changes made to the conservation area are sympathetically carried out.  This is about conservation, not preservation, which is about managing change.  Hopefully the guidance in the Appraisal will help”.

A copy of the Appraisal (PDF, 84kb) is available at Babergh’s Council Offices in Hadleigh and via the council’s website.
