TRIPLE SUCCESS FOR BABERGH CAR PARKS

Summary

Babergh District Council was celebrating today after receiving three ParkMark Awards for its car parking facilities at Stonehouse Road and High Street, Hadleigh, and Girling Street in Sudbury.

Babergh District Council was celebrating today after receiving three ParkMark Awards for its car parking facilities at Stonehouse Road and High Street, Hadleigh, and Girling Street in Sudbury.

The awards were granted following assessments of the three parking facilities earlier this year.   Those assessments, made by Richard English, Suffolk Constabulary’s Accredited ParkMark Assessor, and Mike Bibby of the British Parking Association showed that Babergh District Council had put measures in place to help deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in its car parks, including comprehensive CCTV systems and good lighting.   These measures led to the creation of a safe and non-threatening environment, resulting in fewer crimes being committed at the car parks since their opening.

Chief Constable Alistair McWhirter presented chairman of Babergh District Council, Councillor Sue Wigglesworth, with the award for the Hadleigh High Street car park.  She said “This is the first time that Babergh has received a ParkMark Award, so to be given three at once is marvelous!  I hope that our other parking facilities across the district can be brought up to the same level of safety and I look forward to the Council gaining further ParkMark Awards in the future”.

A national accreditation, ParkMark is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers and is aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in car parks.   The scheme is managed by the British Parking Association and is supported by the Home Office and Scottish Executive.    Customers using a ParkMark accredited facility can be assured that the area has been vetted by the police and has measures in place in order to create a safer environment.
