A leading advisor to the Government has joined Babergh District Council as its new Corporate Director.
For two years, Helen Style has worked in the Local Government Modernisation and Efficiency Division – part of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as a Lead Executive and Programme Director. She has been at the forefront in developing and implementing many of the Government’s efforts to improve the efficiency and working practices of local councils.
Before that, she was the Assistant Chief Executive at Bracknell Forest Unitary Council in Berkshire, having also worked locally as the Colchester Borough Council’s Head of Corporate Policy in the four years until 2001.
Babergh’s Chief Executive, Pat Rockall said that “last year Babergh was given a ‘good’ rating by independent inspectors. We are delighted to have recruited Helen as she has the experience, skills and enthusiasm to make a major contribution in our efforts to become an ‘excellent’ council for our residents, businesses and partners”.
Helen commented that “during my time at Colchester Borough and Essex County Council, Babergh was already a very well respected council. Since then, through the hard work of Councillors and staff and working with partners, it has embarked on a concerted effort to target resources upon its key service priorities and look for savings and efficiencies in how it works to improve services to the people of Babergh. I can’t imagine a better time to join a council that is so focused upon constantly improving itself”.
