YOUNG MUSICAL TALENT IN BABERGH AMPLIFIED - JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!

Summary

Bands across the Babergh district will be getting into the party spirit early, as they take part in a special musical showcase next week.

Bands across the Babergh district will be getting into the party spirit early, as they take part in a special musical showcase next week.

Musicians from the Babergh-backed youth music Amplifier Project will play at AFC Sudbury’s Kings Marsh Stadium on Thursday, December 14.

The talent of bands including Cadmium Rissole, Suspicious Dog, Samba-Tech and Overrider has been nurtured by music tutors through the weekly term-time Amplifier workshops in Sudbury. Now gig goers have a chance to see the results – as the bands take to the stage of the Brundon Lane ground.

The Amplifier Project began in 2004, and is a three-year programme of more than 2000 music workshops and gigs across Suffolk. It is open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 25.

The Project has been made possible by funding from Arts Council England East, Suffolk County Council, Babergh District Council Arts and Community Development and other Suffolk local authorities, along with the European Social Fund.

Susie Tyrrell, Arts and Community Development Officer at Babergh District Council, said: “This showcase is the perfect way to end the year on a high note for bands in our area who have taken part in this initiative.

“The Amplifier Project has shown there is no shortage of musical talent in Suffolk, and we have been delighted with the amount of interest in the sessions. The Project is a great opportunity for talented youngsters to make, promote, and discuss rock, pop and dance music and, as this gig shows, it is already paying dividends.”

The Christmas showcase takes place at Sudbury AFC, Brundon Lane, Sudbury. Entry is £3 and doors will open at 7.30pm.

Amplifier music workshops take place every Tuesday during term time from 6.30 to 8.30pm at The Eden’s Project, Gainsborough Street, Sudbury. The new term begins on Tuesday, January 9 - and all 11 to 25 year olds are welcome.
