Babergh councillors have given plans to conduct a £30,000 feasibility study into a new, six-lane swimming pool in Hadleigh the thumbs-up.
Members of Babergh District Council's Strategy Committee, which met on June 29, voted in favour of a recommendation that will examine, in more detail, the costs that would be incurred in building and operating a new facility in Hadleigh.
Cllr Nick Ridley, Chairman of Babergh's Strategy Committee, said: "After a detailed discussion, members voted in favour of a feasibility study/ business plan to be carried out in respect of creating the new swimming pool in Hadleigh.
"The study will be able to give us all a clearer idea of what we can expect from a new pool, where it might be sited and just what the operational costs will be.
"This step is another clear indication that Babergh is committed to providing the town's residents with the top-class facilities they deserve."
Councillors voted in favour of setting up a Steering Group and Working Group and the role of both groups and a timetable for the study was approved.
Cllr Penny Black, a Hadleigh Town Councillor and Town Mayor, added: "The town council is delighted the green light has been given to further explore possibilities of the retention of swimming facilities in Hadleigh.
"As a swimming teacher for more than 30 years, I believe a swimming pool is one of the most important facilities that Hadleigh should have.
“I am pleased that Babergh councillors agreed the whole community can only benefit from this vital asset." ENDS
