IT’S NOW EASIER TO GET YOUR HANDS ON OUR CASH!

Summary

Community groups and charities could be in line for a cash injection from a Suffolk council’s £100,000 capital grants scheme.

And applicants will now find it even easier to apply for a slice of the money as Babergh District Council unveils its new, streamlined grants process.

Previously applicants faced multiple forms and processes if they wanted to apply for money from more than one cash pot.

Now, the whole system has been given an overhaul and the grants money has been pooled into one pot where applicants can apply for support in three distinct areas: housing, community and core costs and business support.

Sara Jackson, Babergh’s Community Partnerships Manager, said: “We realised the grants process, while producing great results, was not working as well as it could be and listened to potential applicants when they raised issues with it.

“Now we feel the whole process is much simpler and it makes it easier for people to get their hands on our cash.”

New grants forms are now available from Jo Beever, Babergh’s Grants Officer, and the deadline for the first panel to discuss bids for 2008/9 is 25th January 2008.

Applications can be considered for capital or revenue projects, though money available for revenue items is limited. It is anticipated that £105,000 will be available for capital bids but this figure is to be confirmed in February.

In this coming year, much of the revenue budget is committed to established partner agencies providing services that are closely aligned with the Council’s Corporate Objectives.

All applicants will be expected to demonstrate an established need for their project and that they have made considerable efforts to obtain money from other sources.
