Forms asking for details of all people eligible to vote in the Babergh District Council area will soon be winging their way to every house.
From last week, new voter registration forms have been arriving on the doormats of 38,000 residential properties across Babergh.
The forms allow people, if necessary, to change the names of voters registered at their address. Changes will then appear on the new Register of Electors when it is published in December.
Ray Amesbury, Babergh’s Senior Democratic Services Manager, said: “The important thing to remember is that even if there aren’t any changes to your household, the form must still be returned or you could be left off the register.
“This doesn’t just mean you won’t be able to vote for the next year but also that credit companies and banks may refuse any applications as they won’t be able check your identity and verify your address.”
The information requested is required by law and forms must be completed and returned to Babergh’s offices as soon as possible to ensure names are not left off the list.
Completed forms should be sent to Babergh District Council’s offices in Corks Lane, Hadleigh, Ipswich, IP7 6SJ.
Anyone who hasn’t received a form by the second week in September or who needs help with filling in the form, should call Babergh’s electoral services office on (01473) 825713. ENDS
