Volunteer groups and projects across Babergh East could be in line for a cash boost after a partnership announced it has £15k available in grants.

The Babergh East Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) has just revealed its second round of funding for small community grants for voluntary organisations or Parish Councils.

Projects must support initiatives that promote independent living among vulnerable individuals or offer opportunities for disadvantaged young people. Lunch clubs, community transport, mentoring schemes or sports activities for disabled adults or young people are the types of projects that could attract funding.

Cllr Penny Clarke, Chair of the Babergh East LSP, said: “This is a huge chunk of money which will really benefit those groups within our community that need it most and I would urge anyone who thinks their group or project could be eligible to fill in an application form.”

Bids for grants will be accepted for projects that comprise of equipment costs or running expenses – or a mixture of both. Projects that have either been started or completed will not be eligible for consideration.

A panel, made up of representatives from the LSP Board, will assess the applications and determine who will receive grant awards. It is intended decisions will be made and awards announced by early January 2009.

The Babergh East Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is made up of a number of statutory and voluntary agencies whose aim is to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of communities within its area.
