Summary

Budding athletes of all ability levels from Babergh are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Suffolk Youth Games.
Budding athletes of all ability levels from Babergh are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Suffolk Youth Games.

Information and leaflets have already been sent to all schools and leisure centres in the district but leisure bosses at Babergh District Council are urging everyone who hasn’t yet applied to register their interest.

Participants need to be in school year’s 5 to 9, depending on which sport they are interested in and live in the Babergh district to qualify for a team place.

The Babergh team will compete against other district teams from across Suffolk in a variety of events including athletics, badminton, football, hockey and basketball among others.

The 2008 Games are being held at the Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich, on July 6 – so there is plenty of time left to fill in the application form and take part.

Paul Little, Babergh’s Community Safety and Leisure Manager, said: “The Suffolk Youth Games are a fun and exciting way to encourage young people to get involved in sport.

“The aim is to get broad participation across a range of abilities and ensure that all the young people taking part fulfil their potential and try their best.”

Babergh will also be organising a series of training sessions around the district in order to make sure those taking part will have had time beforehand to practise and develop their abilities.

Information on the Suffolk Youth Games 2008 can be found on this website. For more information or to request an application form, please call Gemma O’Shea, Community Development Assistant (Sport), on (01473) 826655. ENDS
