TIME IS NEARLY UP TO NOMINATE YOUR COMMUNITY HERO!

Summary

The hunt to find the people, groups and businesses that make Babergh special is nearly over as the deadline for an annual awards scheme to honour community heroes approaches.
The hunt to find the people, groups and businesses that make Babergh special is nearly over as the deadline for an annual awards scheme to honour community heroes approaches.

Babergh District Council’s Community Achievement Awards 2009, which are now in their 17th year, aim to highlight those who consistently make life better for others.

Forms have been sent to hundreds of schools, parish and town councils, businesses, groups and charities in a bid to find the community’s unsung heroes.

And, as the deadline of the end of November approaches, Babergh is urging anyone who knows someone who may be eligible -and who hasn’t already done so – to grab a form and nominate!

This year’s award categories are: outstanding contribution made by a young person or group of young people 18 years or under; selfless service by an individual (over 18) to a voluntary body or to the community; voluntary or community group that improves the quality of life for residents in our district and outstanding business contribution to the well-being of the community.

The deadline for nominations to be returned to Babergh is at the end of November, with judging to take place and winners notified by Christmas. All winners will then be invited to an awards ceremony being held in March.

Jill Barton, Babergh’s Community Development Officer, said: “There are people, groups and charities in Babergh who are our community heroes. They selflessly, and usually without payment, give up their time to help others and are a real asset to the district.

“This is a chance for the recipients of that hard work and dedication to say thank you and give them the recognition they deserve.”

Mark Murphy, from BBC Radio Suffolk’s Breakfast programme will compere the achievement awards ceremony, which is being sponsored by Prolog.
