A new Glemsford youth club which has been launched following an initial bid for funding by a group of six teenagers is looking to secure its long-term future with help from the community.

The Club developed out of a recent video project called “Teenagers Speak Out Loud”, which was put together by Babergh District Council in partnership with the local community and CSV Media.

The Club named TYEGA (Tye Green Altogether) takes place every Monday evening from 7.00-9.00 pm at the Tye Green Centre in Glemsford and the young attendees are assisted by two youth workers from Supporting Contemporary Adolescence (SCA).

The funding from Suffolk County Council’s Youth Opportunity Fund will now be used to buy equipment for the new club including monster bean bags, a Nintendo Wii and BBQ equipment. Two BBQs have already been held to raise further funds. The young people also hope to purchase a projector, laptop and screen in order that they can watch their favourite DVDs.

Unfortunately this funding will only support the youth workers for the next four months and the club are desperate for further funding in order  to keep the project going. The club also needs more volunteers to help sustain the club.
According to Paul Little, Babergh’s Community Safety & Leisure Manager “the aim of the project was to tell the wider community in Glemsford, what it is like to be a young person in the village, starting a dialogue between young and old on how the community could come together to provide some positive activities for young people. The whole initiative arose out of concerns expressed by the local community in Glemsford about anti-social behaviour. However in recent times reports of anti-social behaviour have dramatically reduced, following a range of initiatives in the area.
“If you can help make the “TYEGA” roar either by volunteering your services or by sponsorship we would appreciate hearing from you. Please contact either Jill Barton, Community Development Officer(01473 826674), Steph Lloyd Community Development Officer (Leisure Inclusion)(01473 825834) or Hilary Smith (01787 282938)” concluded Mr Little.
