Community-minded volunteers are being urged to take part in the UK’s biggest-ever litter pick and help to keep Babergh top of the ‘tidy’ pile.
Babergh District Council has pledged support to the Big Tidy Up, a Keep Britain Tidy group project that will see the first national clean-up event in eight years, which is taking place this month (September).
Community groups, schools, clubs and groups of friends are all being encouraged to take part and boost the national total of bags of litter collected.
Babergh will be supporting groups by loaning litter pickers, hi-vis vests, gloves and sacks, as well as arranging for sacks of litter to be collected and disposed of.
Jo Hart, Babergh’s Environmental Protection Officer, said: ”With 250 sacks of waste collected during Spring Clean Suffolk earlier this year, it would be fantastic to boost this total as part of a national effort.
“Babergh wants the district to be cleaner and greener and supports numerous litter picks throughout the year, so I’d urge anyone interested in taking part to give us a call.”
A special website http://www.thebigtidyup.org/ has been launched where groups can register to add details of their litter pick as well as order free ‘tidy up’ kits containing posters, stickers, tabard bibs, badges and a guide to help carry out your tidy up safely to help with events.
Anyone interested in the Big Tidy Up can get more information or arrange to borrow equipment from Babergh by calling 01473 825889. ENDS
