A community alarm service - which has helped 3,000 vulnerable clients to maintain their independence in their own homes - will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this week.
Babergh Response uses a portable alarm, which fits a person’s existing phone line and automatically makes a call to a dedicated control centre when the alarm is activated.
Once the call has been answered, specially-trained staff will make contact with the clients’ friends, relatives, doctors or emergency services depending on the needs of the individual.
Sue Wigglesworth, Chairman of the Housing Panel said: "Babergh Response is very important to us because we believe that it helps older and vulnerable people to live independently for longer in their own homes - avoiding the stress and difficulties of moves into supported accommodation.
“It also offers much-needed reassurance both to the person themselves but also their families and friends.”
And as a special thank you, a tea party is being held on Friday (July 3) for existing clients and their families, Babergh staff – past and present - who have worked with Babergh Response over the last two decades.
