BABERGH TO RESIDENTS: “DON’T LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE – AND MORE”

Summary

Forms asking for details of all people eligible to vote in the Babergh District Council area will soon be delivered to every house.

Forms asking for details of all people eligible to vote in the Babergh District Council area will soon be delivered to every house.

Next week, new voter registration forms will be arriving on the doormats of the 8,500 residential properties across Babergh.
The forms allow people, if necessary, to change the names of voters registered at their address. Changes will then appear on the new Register of Electors when it is published in December.

Ray Amesbury, Babergh’s Senior Democratic Services Manager, said “the important thing to remember is that a response needs to be made even if there is no change to the details already printed on the form but, if there are no changes, people can confirm their details on the internet or by telephone rather than sending back the form – and this will save the Council money as well”.

“If no response is received though, there is a chance that people could be left off the register. This will mean both that they will not be able to vote at the District Council elections and the planned referendum on the voting system next year, but also that credit companies and banks may refuse any applications as they wouldn’t be able check the person’s identity and verify their address” added Ray Amesbury.

The information requested is required by law and must be provided as soon as possible to ensure that names are not left off the list.

Anyone who hasn’t received a form by the second week in September or who needs help with filling in the form, should call Babergh’s electoral services office on (01473) 825713.
