A special reopening party is being planned to celebrate the start of a new season at a popular youth venture.
The Hub, which is based at Sudbury Upper School’s Sports Centre, is opening its doors again on Friday (27th) from 6pm as part of the Babergh District Council’s Be Active project.
Young people, aged between12 and17 years old, will be able to take part in basketball and football sessions, play Xbox and Wii computer games - as well as, and for this week only, a mobile skate park will give youngsters the chance to flip, jump, skate and scoot over ramps and jumps all night. And – even better news – all of the sessions are free! Also on the night DJ Justin Carter, from The Amplifier project, will be giving youngsters the chance to show off their DJ skills with some virtual DJing and Streetdance lessons are also on offer to a chance to learn the latest moves to the latest music. The last Hub open evening, held in July, attracted close to 100 young people - who took part in a world cup themed 5 aside competition, Virtual Djing, Streetdance lesson and basketball sessions.
The night was organised by Babergh District Councils Be Active Officer Stephanie Lloyd, with support from Youth and Connexions, Suffolk Contemporary Adolescents, The Amplifier project and Suffolk County Council’s Youth Service.
Stephanie said: “I couldn't have hoped for a better turn out - the young people were great, the weather was perfect.
“The open event was a chance for the local community and parents to see what there is for local young people to do in Sudbury on a Friday evening. We are also hopeful the open evening will have attracted some new adult helpers – as this is key to The Hub’s success.” Youngsters from The Hub were also rewarded for their commitment and enthusiasm with a day of paintball at a national paintball site in Essex on July 27th.
The young people got to dress in full 'combat' gear and took to the forest.
Stephanie added: “After speaking to lots of the members at The Hub, paintball was the top activity they wanted to do and fortunately, with funding from Babergh District Council and the Extended Schools Service, they were lucky enough to get the chance.”
All activities are free and start from 6pm - no need to book just turn up - for more information please contact Stephanie Lloyd, Community Development Officer, Babergh District Council, 01473 825834 or email stephanie.lloyd@babergh.gov.uk
