HADLEIGH SWIMMING POOL: £500K REBUILD PROGRAMME COMPLETED

Summary

Users and supporters of Hadleigh Swimming Pool are being invited to join in the celebrations to mark the successful completion of an ambitious programme to rebuild its changing rooms and reception area.

Users and supporters of Hadleigh Swimming Pool are being invited to join in the celebrations to mark the successful completion of an ambitious programme to rebuild its changing rooms and reception area.

Over the past six months or so, Hadleigh Swimming Pool has undergone extensive rebuilding work amounting to an investment of about half a million pounds. Over £300,000 of this has come from Babergh District Council with the remainder sourced from Sport England.

As such, this is the largest non-housing project of its kind undertaken by Babergh for a number of years.

According to Cllr Nick Ridley, Chairman of Babergh’s Strategy Committee “Hadleigh Pool is a much-loved local facility. Over and above the money Babergh invests each year in the maintenance and running of the Pool, we wanted to ensure that the whole user experience was as positive as possible. Recognising that the original changing rooms and reception area were a bit gloomy and old-fashioned we firmly believe that these replacements are a vast improvement for users and staff alike”.

Cllr David Wood, Chairman of Babergh District Council, who will be presiding over the re-opening ceremonies added “this is good news for both users and staff and I would urge anyone in Hadleigh and the surrounding villages who might have been a bit put off swimming here by the old changing rooms in the past, to give the new experience another chance”.

Tracey Copping, Chief Executive for South Suffolk Leisure, the company that manages the Pool on behalf of Babergh, explained “we are delighted with the results that have been achieved and we thank our loyal users for their understanding during this time.  Our team will look forward to seeing faces old and new for many years to come”.

An official re-opening ceremony is due to take place from 11.30am onwards on Saturday September 11 at which children who participate in the swim school sessions at the Pool will be present.

After that, South Suffolk Leisure is inviting the public to join them for an afternoon of free fun activities for everyone including Family Splash, It’s a Knockout and Rookie Lifeguard.
