Two play areas in Sudbury are being given a facelift - worth nearly £40,000 - thanks to Lottery funding and planning development cash.

The two play areas, at Raleigh Close and Aubrey Drive, were earmarked for new equipment after regular checks on the parks Babergh manages uncovered that existing equipment had reached the end of its useful lifespan.

Raleigh Close will have two areas - one for toddlers and a dedicated teenzone. The toddler are will have a new dinosaur play frame and slide, a springer and a small picnic table, while the teenzone has an air rider, a rota rock, spinner and a youth shelter and meeting point. This equipment and installation is costing £28,000.

And in Aubrey Drive, a new basket swing, rocker and a spring seesaw have been installed at the cost of £11,000.

Jo Seymour, Babergh's Horticutural Officer, said: "Babergh is delighted to be giving these two parks a much-needed facelift. Children love playing outdoors and one of Babergh's priorities is to ensure the community is healthier, so we are only too happy to make that outside experience a more pleasurable one where we can.

"Babergh firmly believes all children and young people have a right to play and that play is essential for a child's development and well-being.”

"Babergh would also like to thank the residents in each area, who have had to put up with disruption while the work was ongoing, for their understanding and patience."

The work being carried out has been made possible by successful bids for Lottery funding and from money secured through Section 106 agreements - secured from private developers to offset any impact of their development on the local community.

All of the old equipment removed will be recycled. ENDS
