Competent Persons Scheme

Competent Persons Schemes were introduced by the Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a Building Regulation application.

These schemes cover the following works:

  • Replacement windows - for further details see Replacement Windows Guidance Note (PDF, 33Kb)
  • Installation of gas or oil fired burning appliances
  • Electrical installations

You should always ensure that if your installer is not registered under the competent person scheme, then a Building Regulation application is made to your Local Authority.

The self-certification schemes include:

Replacement Windows and doors
