Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

Summary

The Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted on the 7th of April 2009. The Document relates to the policies of the adopted Local Plan concerned with affordable housing contributions. The Affordable Housing SPD provides the fine detail of how the District Council intends to implement these policies.

Supplementary Planning Documents provide clarity to developers and the general public about how exactly the Council proposes to interpret and operate existing policies on particular issues. This Supplementary Planning Document deals with the Council's approach to affordable housing and refers to policies HS08 and HS09 of the adopted Local Plan.

Local Plan Policies HS08 and HS09 set out the Council's intention to require developers to deliver and negotiate with developers for an element of affordable housing on new housing sites where a local need has been identified.

The Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document was adopted by Babergh District Council on the 7th April 2009.  As a formal Supplementary Planning document, this document has the status of a material consideration in the determination of planning applications, and operates alongside other documents in the Local Development Framework (LDF). This document, however, cannot and does not set policy in its own right. The document will help to steer and shape planning applications to ensure that an appropriate level of affordable housing is secured and that it is provided in a satisfactory way. The document can be reviewed on regular basis to make provision for changing circumstances.
