Planning Applications: Local Validation Requirements

From 6 April 2008 there will be a legal obligation for all planning applications to be submitted on the national standard planning application form or 1APP.  The use of these forms will be mandatory and applications not submitted on the right application form cannot be considered.  The existing planning application forms (with the exception of forms for mineral development) will become obsolete.

The new forms are intended to achieve consistency and will make the process of applying for planning permission more straightforward for applicants.  At the same time as the Government makes using the new forms obligatory, there will be new rules for the validation of planning applications.

From 6 April 2008, for an application to be valid and processed by the District Council, applicants will have to submit a minimum level of information with their applications (See “The Validation of Planning Applications: Guidance for Local Planning Authorities”, Communities and Local Government, December 2007, at www.communities.gov.uk).

As well as submitting the mandatory national information required for a valid application, local planning authorities are encouraged to prepare, consult and adopt their own local lists of requirements, based upon those suggested by the Government.  The District Council has, therefore, produced a consultation document that sets out the additional information that will be required to accompany proposals, and is seeking your observations before it adopts its own local list.

The consultation document in available to view on-line (Planning Applications: Local Validation Requirements - Consultation Document) or alternatively it may be obtained from Planning Reception at the District Council’s Offices.  Please telephone 01473 825858 or email planning.reception@babergh.gov.uk if you would like a copy.

Comments should be made in writing and addressed to the Chief Planning Control Officer at Babergh District Council, Corks Lane, Hadleigh, IPSWICH IP7 6SJ.  Alternatively they may be emailed to planning.reception@babergh.gov.uk  Please include your full postal address if responding by email.

Your response must be received by 3 March 2008.
