Bus passes - which from 1st April entitle the holders to free travel on local buses anywhere in England* - are currently being issued to all existing bus pass holders. (*Some restrictions on use may apply when travelling outside Suffolk. Please check before you travel)
Babergh residents who have only recently become eligible for a bus pass or have not until now taken advantage of the scheme can apply for one either by post or in person at our offices in Corks Lane Hadleigh.
** The age of eligibility for concessionary travel in England is tied to the pensionable age for women. So, as the pensionable age for women gradually increases from 60 to 65 over the ten-year period from 2010 to 2020 so too will the age of eligibility for concessionary travel increase for both men and women. The age of eligibility for concessionary travel for those turning 60 after 6 April 2010 is therefore:
By 2020 the pensionable age for men and women will have harmonised at 65.
Beyond 2020, the age of eligibility for concessionary travel will continue to increase in line with any future changes to the state pension age.
