Apply for Planning Permission online
The best way to apply for planning permission is to do it online through the Planning Portal.
If you are unable to apply on-line, you can download and print the Application Forms and Guidance Notes by following the links under Planning Application Forms, Guidance Notes and Checklists.
We have now switched to the new National Standard Planning Application Forms, information about 1APP forms is held here, so please make sure you use either the on-line application method, or the forms linked at the bottom of this page.
We will not be able to accept applications on older versions of the Application Form.

Making a Planning Application
Anyone is allowed to make a planning application in respect of any land or buildings and they do not have to own the freehold or have any other ownership interest in that land.
However the applicant is required to give notice of the planning application to any person who on the prescribed date (i.e. 21 days before the date of the application) is the owner or tenant of the land in question.
This should be done by using the following: Form for Service on an Owner of Agricultural Land or for Newspaper Publication.
In the event that the owner is not known to the applicant an advert based upon the form should be placed in a local newspaper.
The applicant should also ensure that the appropriate notification has been carried out on the planning application forms (Certificate A, B, C or D).
You will save a considerable amount of time by ensuring you complete the Application Forms fully and provide all the necessary plans and supporting documents referred to in the Guidance Notes relevant to your application.
Before making your application ensure that you have included all the necessary documentation, 4 copies of each are required, and the appropriate fee (online Fee Calculator). Annex B (PDF, 75kb) of the Local Validation Requirements document (PDF, 350kb) contains a glossary of our local requirements detailing in what circumstances additional documentaion is required.
All of the national requirements listed in the checklist must be satisfied when an application is submitted. As it is not possible to identify the local requirements for every type of development proposal, it is recommended that applicants consult the Local Validation Requirements document (PDF, 350kb) for information or contact the District Council before making an application.
Failure to provide all of the information needed to satisfy the national and relevant local requirements will invalidate the application and it will be returned to you.
