Local lists play an essential role in building and reinforcing a sense of local character and distinctiveness in the historic environment. Local lists can be used to identify significant local heritage assets and can be produce by local communities in conjunction with the District Council. They can helpfully complement the understanding and management of what is special in a place as already revealed via the national list of historic buildings and local conservation area designations.
