Feasibility study on the development of a film studio, training centre and related creative cluster in Brantham
The film and TV industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK economy. Between 2014 and 2018, the value of UK spend in film, high-end TV and TV animation rose by 36%.
Whilst COVID-19 has impacted cinemas, demand for online platforms has increased significantly. The industry therefore remains buoyant and current studio space is fully booked for the next 11 years.
Since 2015, Suffolk's local authorities have been working together to ensure that Suffolk has a stake in this vibrant, growing industry. Public sector leaders have invested £300,000 into Screen Suffolk, to attract film productions to the county.
In Autumn 2021, Babergh District Council, in partnership with Suffolk County Council and St Francis Group, commissioned Olsberg SPI to undertake a feasibility study. This study will be accompanied by a business plan, as Olsberg SPI investigate TV, film and creative cluster options for Brantham Industrial Estate and surrounding area.
The outcome of this study is expected in early 2022.
