In July 2022, the Council will be submitting a bid for the Levelling Up Fund Round 2 incorporating an updated version of the regeneration scheme and local transport bus improvements.
Have your say on the improved proposals
Until 18 July 2022, local residents, visitors, businesses and stakeholders were able to feedback on the revised regeneration scheme. These proposals had been produced for the Council by KLH Architects.
Please use the link below to access a copy of the boards, which were also be on public display at the ‘What’s next in Sudbury’ event on the 16th to 18th June 2022 in the Town Hall.
Following the end of the consultation period, all feedback will be reviewed and considered for the next phase of design work and form part of the Levelling Up Fund Round 2 bid.

Hamilton Road Quarter and Belle Vue Architect Overview 2020
In September 2020 the Sudbury Vision Steering Group was presented with the high level concept works prepared by Hamson Barron Smith (HBS) architects. This incorporated the Hamilton Road area alongside early concept work for Belle Vue park entrance.
This work outlines a high level mixed use residential and commercial scheme for Hamilton Road incorporating:
- Moving the bus station to on-street stops
- Better connectivity of the area with the rest of the town and Belle Vue Park (and proposed new entrance)
- Improving the flow of pedestrians including to and from the rail station, proposed new GP practice, river walk meadows and leisure centre
- Improved public realm and opportunities for community activities
- Cinema and hotel
- Town centre living
- Regenerating derelict brownfield area
The Council, working closely with Suffolk County Council and town partners, is actively looking for opportunities including external funding to bring forward a viable scheme.
A well-supported and evidence Round 1 Levelling Up Fund bid submitted in June 2021 incorporating the regeneration scheme and local transport bus improvements was not successful. Alternatives including a phased development approach are now being explored, and fresh external funding opportunities developed.
