Stowmarket Health, Education and Leisure Facilities Scheme Survey

Mid Suffolk District Council are excited to announce that a new wellbeing and leisure hub will be created in northwest Stowmarket.

The scheme, which will have a holistic approach, will focus on the support and delivery of health, wellbeing, sport and leisure. Shared facilities will be created across two sites near Stowmarket High School.

Stowmarket is the largest town in the district, and its population continues to grow. The Councils' recently updated Leisure, Sport and Physical Activity strategy identified the need for more facilities that will help our communities thrive, and access great services.

The proposed scheme is complicated; the sites have a number of different owners. All stakeholders - as well as local sports organisations - have worked together to create a single vision of high quality facilities, and innovative partnerships, for Stowmarket.

Key stakeholders include:

  • Stowmarket High School
  • Suffolk County Council
  • Stowmarket Town Council
  • Everyone Active
  • the Clinical Commissioning Group for Ipswich and East Suffolk
  • the NHS
  • Active Suffolk
  • Sport England

The hub will improve facilities for a wide of sports, leisure and health organisations, via the provision of shared spaces to work from. The proposed scheme includes plans for:

  • a multi-agency wellbeing hub
  • a 4G football pitch
  • a multi-use 2G pitch
  • a mini athletics track
  • a multi-sports pavilion
  • a games area
  • four indoor sports court
  • a new cricket square and nets
