Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are located together at:

Work is what we do not where we go, at Babergh and Mid Suffolk we work in a hybrid way, with a mix of office, home, and remote based working. This works well for our teams and offers flexibility for our employees. We also offer great opportunities for learning and development for all our employees.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy.

We also advertise most of our vacancies on the Suffolk Jobs Direct website, which hosts all local government jobs for Suffolk.

Message from the Chief Executive

Thank you for your interest in joining our dedicated team and making a real difference to our communities across Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

We believe that the heart of Suffolk is a very special place to live and work.  With picturesque market towns, 60 conservation areas and, with two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within our districts, it’s perhaps little wonder that we’re consistently within the top 50 places to live in the UK.

But as well as being proud of the districts we serve, we are also dedicated to serving their communities and – since 2011 – we have been at the vanguard of successfully implementing new ways of working in order to meet our residents’ needs… despite the significant financial challenges faced by the public sector.

As well as sharing a Chief Executive and dedicated workforce, our two councils now also share a vision, a joint strategic plan and a desire to deliver the very best outcomes for the communities we serve.

Working together across our Councils and with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors, we provide excellent services to our 190,000 residents across both districts – working hard to build more homes, support our communities, boost our local economy, protect our environment and keep our streets clean, tidy and safe.

You can see more of our achievements in our performance pages, where you will find our public quarterly performance reports and our end of term report.

Just as important as what we do, is how we do it – and I am delighted we now have our set of values, developed by our own employees.

These set out the importance we place on:

  • Our people
  • Our customers
  • Being open and honest
  • Taking ownership and
  • Being ambitious

By adopting these values and encouraging employees to think and work flexibly, we can give our teams the confidence and opportunities they need to deliver the best possible results for our residents.

We hope you’ll join us and see for yourself why Babergh and Mid Suffolk is a great place to develop your career, learn new ways of collaborative working and make a valued contribution to our districts and beyond.
