Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council Funding
This webpage provides information about the community grant funding provided by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils.
Are you eligible?
Our funding is limited to constituted community groups and organisations. Eligible bodies include, but are not limited to:
- town and parish councils
- village hall or playing field management committees
- sports clubs and centres
- social enterprises
- community shops and pubs
- community interest companies
Our funding is not available for individuals or businesses.
Which grants are available?
Through our Community Grants team, a range of grants are available for projects that have clear community benefits within our districts.
Capital Grants are available to support improvements to, or the development of, new community facilities. These could be:
- village halls
- play areas
- sports clubs
- recreational facilities
Up to 40% of overall project costs can be applied for. The maximum grant that can be awarded is currently £15,000 in Babergh, and £25,000 in Mid Suffolk.
Please note: We are currently unable to accept Minor Grant applications in Babergh.
Minor Grants are one-off grants of up to £1,000 for small scale projects. These could be:
- community activities
- environmental projects
- local voluntary events
- art projects
- sporting activities
- schemes that promote health and education
New Initiatives Grants
Please note: We are currently unable to accept New Initiatives applications in Babergh.
New Initiatives Grants are one-off grants, available to support the management and operational costs involved in creating a new service within the districts. These grants are limited to a single 12-month period - especially for services within their first year of activity.
The maximum amount of money that can be applied for is £5,000.
Emerging Needs Grants
Please note: We are currently unable to accept Emerging Needs applications in Babergh.
These one-off grants are available to support the management and operational costs involved in retaining or protecting an existing service. These grants are limited to a single 12-month period.
Section 106 (S106) can be applied for through our Grants team. We can let you know how much S106 is available within your parish.
Alternatively, the Developer Contributions Database contains details on all S106 and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) available within the districts.
Communities in both Babergh and Mid Suffolk now have access to Locality Award funding through District Councillors.
Community Development Grants
Please note: we are no longer accepting Community Development Grant applications, with the deadline passing on 16th September.

Revenue Grants (closed to new applications)
Revenue Grants support community groups operating within Babergh and Mid Suffolk on a yearly basis. This fund is currently closed to new applications.
