Public Health Funerals
The Council has to arrange a funeral for a local person who has died, when other suitable arrangements have not been made.
This is a duty that comes under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984.
In these cases, the Council will arrange and pay for a simple but respectful funeral, to keep costs to a minimum.
When the Council has arranged and paid for a funeral, they may recover any expenses from the estate of the deceased person.
