Home > Housing > Homes Strategy

Homes Strategy

This first ever joint strategy is currently under development during 2018.

Both Councils share an agreed vision for residents to be able to access enough housing which is affordable, appropriate to meet household needs and of a good standard.

We are actively working with housing industry stakeholders, public sector partners and parish and town councils to make sure housing across Babergh and Mid Suffolk matches up to this.

The Homes Strategy will focus resources to meet four significant housing market challenges:

  • Increasing new homes delivery
  • Increasing housing options for older households and those requiring accessible homes
  • Ensuring current housing stock is fit for 21st century living
  • Supporting the most vulnerable household find and sustain a home

Homes Strategy Consultation

We are pleased to share the drafts of two new Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils' (BMSDC) strategies: 'BMSDC Homes Strategy 2019 -2024' and 'BMSDC Homelessness Reduction Strategy 2019 -2024'.

Both of these strategies are important to the work of the councils, in making sure there are enough of the right sort of homes (of the right tenure and in the right places), helping to prevent homelessness.

The development of these strategies, including priorities for action, has been informed by the views of a wide range of partners with an understanding of local, current and future housing market challenges. Views were gathered at a number of consultation events, which took place earlier this year.

We now want to gather YOUR views on these strategies through online surveys which can be accessed below:

Homes Strategy:

Thank you for taking part in this consultation. The consultation is now closed.

Homelessness Reduction Strategy:

Thank you for taking part in this consultation. The consultation is now closed.

A summary of consultation responses will be posted here during early February 2019.

The strategies and Action Plans will be amended in light of the feedback received, and prepared for adoption by both Full Councils in March 2019.
