Home > Housing > Housing Strategy

Housing Strategy

This first ever joint strategy is currently under development during 2018.

Both Councils share an agreed vision for residents to be able to access enough housing which is affordable, appropriate to meet household needs and of a good standard.

We are actively working with housing industry stakeholders, public sector partners and parish and town councils to make sure housing across Babergh and Mid Suffolk matches up to this.

The Housing Strategy will focus resources to meet four significant housing market challenges:

  • Increasing new homes delivery
  • Increasing housing options for older households and those requiring accessible homes
  • Ensuring current housing stock is fit for 21st century living
  • Supporting the most vulnerable household find and sustain a home

Housing Strategy Consultation

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay with this important consultation.

Due to some recent changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (July 2018) and the impacts this may have on new homes delivery in particular, we are taking a little longer than anticipated to create the best draft of the Housing Strategy and so have decided to slightly delay the consultation period.

The consultation will still take place over a six-week period before Christmas. We hope to publish the revised dates in the very near future.
